Differences Between PoE Network Ports and Common Network Ports

The functions and usages of the POE network port are different from those of the common network port.

Functions and uses:

Power over Ethernet (POE) network ports not only transmit data, but also power supply without additional power wiring, suitable for remote power supply requirements, such as monitoring, wireless AP and other devices. Common network ports are only used for data transmission and do not provide power supply.

Power supply capability:

The POE network port can provide power for the device on the same network cable, realizing the dual functions of data transmission and power supply. This capability makes the installation and deployment of network equipment more flexible and convenient, while also reducing the use of cables and saving energy and resources.

Wiring and cost:

Because the POE network port can transmit data and power at the same time, there is no need to lay additional power lines during installation, which greatly simplifies the wiring project. However, the cost of POE cable is relatively high, mainly because its production process and materials are different from ordinary cable, requiring higher technical content and better materials.

Transmission distance and stability:

POE cable has high transmission distance and stability, and it is necessary to choose a good quality network cable to obtain better transmission effect. In contrast, ordinary network cables may have signal instability when the transmission distance is long.

Reliability and security:

The POE network port has higher security and reliability during data transmission, because data and power are transmitted on the same network cable, which can avoid electromagnetic interference problems that may occur in the traditional power cable, and improve the stability of data transmission.

In summary, the POE network port provides greater flexibility and convenience for the installation, deployment and management of network devices through its unique power supply and data transmission functions, and also helps to save energy, reduce emissions and improve the reliability of the network system.
